Green Infrastructure Strategy Green Infrastructure (GI) is a term used to describe networks of natural spaces and corridors. The GI network includes open spaces, parks and gardens, allotments, woodlands, street trees, green roofs, fields, hedges, lakes, ponds, playing field, as well as footpaths, cycleways and waterways. The Bath & North East Somerset area benefits from a unique and outstanding natural environment, however the potential benefits it could provide for both people and wildlife have yet to be fully realised. To address this, the council is developing a Green Infrastructure Strategy for the district. Building on earlier consultation with partners, the Council has produced a draft Green Infrastructure Strategy for public consultation.

MOD Concept Statements - Foxhill, Warminster Road and Ensleigh The MoD is leaving its Bath sites at Foxhill, Warminster Road and Ensleigh, and is relocating staff to Abbey Wood near Bristol. Relocation has already started and is planned to be largely complete by March 2013. The MoD intend to market the sites for sale from September 2012. The Council is keen to ensure that all three sites are regenerated as housing led development sites that contribute to achieving the aspirations of the local communities as well as meeting the wider objectives of the Bath and North East Somerset Core Strategy. To achieve this, the Council are working together with the MoD and key stakeholders to produce Concept Statements for each of the three Bath MoD sites. The draft statements have been published for public consultation and we are holding a series of consultation events.

Shaping the future of social housing in Bath and North East Somerset The Localism Act has introduced changes to the way people can access social housing and to the types of social housing tenancies that are available. Housing Services have already asked key stakeholders such as registered providers of social housing and service users for their views on the key issues. Their responses have informed the preparation of a draft Tenancy Strategy and draft Allocations Scheme. This consultation will help us ensure clarity and inclusiveness before we begin implementation. These are important plans that set out how we would like registered providers of social housing to respond to the Localism Act, they are likely to affect all new tenants to social housing. They include increasing rents on some properties to fund new affordable housing, offering fixed term in place of lifetime tenancies, restricting the social housing register so that only people with a local connection and without sufficient means to access other forms of housing can apply.
